Last weekend I popped in to one of my local shopping outlets while my car was having an MOT and came away with quite a few goodies. The candle shop has a HUGE array of Yankee Candles so it was great to go and have a good sniff and pick another winter candle, plus some Christmas presents. I’m quite picky when it comes to scents so I really need to try before I buy.
I’m not sure if you can call it a haul when I only bought 3 candles, but unfortunately my budget doesn’t stretch to much more so 3 candles will do, and as they’re all from the Christmas range I thought I’d share with you what I bought.
Mmm this candle is just lovely! I could curl up in a big hoody and watch Christmas movies and eat mince pies with this scent. It’s everything Christmassy but as a nice plain palette, nothing overwhelming like masses of cinnamon or sweetness, just a gentle, lovely Christmas smell. It’s the only one I bought for myself and I lit it as soon as I got home. It’s not overly powerful, and I’m not sure if that’s because it’s only a small size or if it’s due to the scent, but it lingers in the background without giving you that “shoved-up-your-nose” scent experience. I’ve got a feeling I’ll be getting the larger version of this before Christmas comes!
Fragrance notes from Yankee Candle: “Traditional holiday scents of a warm hearth, sugared plums and candied fruits. Top: Orange, almond, lime, lemon. Mid: Red berry, cinnamon, nutmeg. Base: Violet, amber, creamy praline, vanilla.
I like a touch of sweetness but nothing too sickly and this smells just perfect. It’s a nice, clean scent with a hint of sweetness underlying, but not up to the levels of candy or cookie type sweet scents.
Fragrance notes from Yankee Candle: “A deliciously sweet apple treat… a perfect recipe of juicy apples sprinkled with sugar and vanilla.”
This is one of those classic, clean, pleasant scents that is quite mild. It’s similar to candles such as clean cotton which I think just make a room smell nice. Perfect for people who don’t necessarily want to be sniffing food or nature in their house but still want a nice scent.
Fragrance notes from Yankee Candle: “A crisp scent of frosted leaves on snow-covered trees in the cool air, all warmed by golden amber sun rays. Top: Frosted orange, rosemary. Mid: Eucalyptus, spruce, lavendaer. Base: White cedar, golden amber.”
Body Shop Party
By coincidence I happened to be there for the opening party of a new Body Shop. The first 50 shoppers were given a goody bag so I thought why not and queued up for about 10 minutes before fighting my way through the crowd to make a quick purchase and receive my freebies.
I bought some Olive and Mango shower gels, which would have normally been £4 each but instead I got the two for £5.60. Then I was quite impressed to be presented with a free clearing toner, body milk, aqua lotion and shampoo!
It was definitely a useful right-time-at-the-right-place moment.
I’ve not used the products yet and I’m not going to even try to review them, as let’s be honest I don’t really know much about skin care, nor have much experience of products to compare them too.
All in all it was a good mornings shop!
